Diamond rush movie " Ngoda" gets positive reviews

 

The 2023 Zimbabwean diamond rush film, co-directed by long time collaborators Joe Njangu and Edie Sandifolo is receiving positive reviews from critics.

The movie which is based on the 2008 diamond rush had a Harare exclusive premier in March then Bulawayo. It has been received warmly by critics and the audience that managed to watch it. One site, the 3-mob.com described it as a “surprisingly inspired and gripping drama of incremental tragedy.” A comment that paid tribute to the movie’s handling of drama and the dark tones it.

“It is driven by the sheer force of performances by a well put-together cast, seemingly cherry-picked for specific roles for which they exploited their varying skills,” They wrote. “As an ensemble, this is probably one of the best collective we have seen for a while,” they added.

Some critics praised Eddie Sandifolo’s performance and gave much emphasis and appreciation on his directorial debut stating, “Sandifolo’s performance as Tindo is perennially of impressive standard, espeacially his directorial debut on a feature is top tier”

Other actors received affirmative reviews as well. Charmaine Mujeri stood above the lot with her performance as Bhuru described as “tortuous without being unhinged…impressively, a calculated blood in the water, toying with food before sending it to other world.”

Micheal Kudakwashe, Farai Chigudu, Chati Nutao and Taurai Kawara laso received positive notes from various critics.

It was however criticized for poor use of sound that oftentimes was not immersive enough to really bring the story’s world to life and sink the audience into it.

 The movie centres on the story of two brothers who have get into the illegal word of diamond mining in order to raise money to claim their land back.
